About me

My
Story

I was 11-years-old when my Dad pulled me aside and explained - in the kindest possible way - that playing professional football was unlikely to be in my future.

My dreams were dashed but like any good Father, he suggested alternate options that might still see me enjoy a professional career in the sport, albeit I’d be a bit further away from the pitch. Less muddy at least, so I thought Mum would be pleased. One of the options suggested was to work in the media. I was sold immediately and from that day onwards I set off in pursuit of a career in sports marketing.

Work experience, University, working for free, moving to London on a low income, long days, long hours, ever-increasing workloads - it's proven to be a tough career choice. But I wouldn’t change it for the world. I now work as the Head of Content for Aston Martin Formula One Team, having spent five years working in football as Senior Content Manager for Chelsea FC and as a Video Producer/Editor for West Ham United. I’ve covered major events all over the world - F1, Premier League and Champions League football, the Rugby World Cup, Six Nations, World Athletics Championship, the London Marathon - I’ve filmed the Royal Family, I’ve interviewed the Prime Minister (Boris Johnson), I’ve told stories through content that have pulled on every possible emotion.

While I was climbing the ladder, I received advice and support from established journalists and now it’s my turn to help others. So read my article posts, check out the latest jobs, email me via the Contact page. If I can find success in sports marketing then so can you - it’s not easy, but if it was easy then I wouldn't have succeeded. So keep dreaming, keep chasing, keep growing and keep learning.

I’ll see you at work.

I have been fortunate enough to realise my professional dreams and establish myself in a highly competitive industry - and I’ve worked my tail off to get there. I’ve taken chances, I’ve made mistakes, I’ve learnt, I’ve developed and because of that I’ve been promoted, I’ve won awards, I was even invited to be a judge for both the 2022 and 2023 UK Content Awards. Now, having achieved some success in my own career, I want to help the next generation of students and graduates to find their route into marketing. Every day I receive a LinkedIn message asking for tips and advice on how to break into the industry, and I try to answer as many as possible. But I wanted to go one step further, and so I’ve created this website to offer that advice and provide those tips in greater detail, to explain my own story as learnings for others to follow or to discard entirely and to list real job opportunities that could provide marketing or media students and recent graduates with their first step.
